Coffee is a staple in our house, but on a hot summer day we prefer an iced coffee over a hot cup of joe.

So, we’ve decided to share one of our guilty pleasures. It’s my iced white chocolate mocha recipe.

This was the very first drink I ever ordered from Starbucks, and it’s been my favorite iced drink ever since. To save a few dollars, I decided to start making a homemade version.

According to Starbucks’ website, their grande-sized Iced White Chocolate Mocha features 2% milk, 4 pumps of white chocolate mocha sauce, 2 shots of espresso, ice, and whipped cream.

We created our recipe with similar ingredients and plenty of room for customization! We even have tips explaining how to make a skinny iced white chocolate mocha.

This iced drink is easy to make and the longest part is waiting for the coffee to brew. But, that’s better than waiting in line, right?

Do you need an espresso maker to make a white chocolate mocha?

No, you do not need an espresso machine to make a white chocolate mocha.

While using fresh brewed espresso yields the best results, it’s not necessary to run out and buy a fancy espresso machine.

You can use instant espresso powder, instant coffee, cold brew coffee, or use extra-strong coffee in place of espresso.

They each have unique flavors, especially if you’re accustomed to espresso, but they’ll work great in a pinch.

Can you use something other than 2% milk in an iced white chocolate mocha?

Yes, you can use other milk or non-dairy milk alternatives in an iced white mocha drink.

Starbucks uses 2% milk in their standard white chocolate mochas, but you have other option. Here are a few:

  • Almond Milk.
  • Coconut Milk.
  • Whole Milk.
  • Oat Milk.
  • Soy Milk.

Is there a substitute for white chocolate syrup?

Yes, there are a few substitutes available for white chocolate coffee syrup.

We use Torani brand, but if you can’t find it here are some other options:

  • Torani White Chocolate Sauce:This white chocolate sauce makes a great topping for desserts and even tastes wonderful drizzled over the whipped cream on this drink. It can double as the white chocolate flavor in the white chocolate mocha, too!
  • White Chocolate Chips:Make your own white chocolate sauce by melting good-quality white chocolate chips with a little heavy cream of whole milk. Stir the melted white chocolate chips into the espresso!
  • Baking Chocolate:Melt some white baking chocolate with heavy cream or milk and make a homemade white chocolate sauce to flavor this coffee drink!

How much caffeine is in Starbucks Iced White Chocolate Mocha?

According to the Starbucks’ website, a grande white chocolate mocha has approximately 150 mg of caffeine.

Each shot of espresso contains 75 mg of caffeine. The following shows how much caffeine is in each additional shot per drink.

  • One shot of espresso contains 75 mg of caffeine.
  • Two shots of espresso, or a double shot, contains 150 mg of caffeine.
  • Three shots of espresso, or a triple shot, contains 225 mg of caffeine.

How do you make a skinny iced white chocolate mocha?

To make a skinny white chocolate mocha, swap the white chocolate syrup for a sugar free white chocolate coffee syrup.

Make sure to purchase an unsweetened milk or milk alternative. It should also be low-fat if you’re looking for a low-fat or fat-free option.

If using cold brew, check to ensure it’s unsweetened as well.

  • Add the perfect amount of espresso.Do you like a single shot of espresso or maybe it’s a double shot of espresso? Customize this iced mocha to your tastes!
  • Make a dark chocolate mocha!Swap the white chocolate syrup for dark chocolate coffee syrup for a rich, decadent flavor.
  • Try it hot!While we adore the iced version of the white chocolate mocha, a hot white chocolate mocha is just as tasty. Plus, it’s perfect for the cold winter months.

Storage:

Refrigerator:We recommend enjoying this iced drink immediately. If you have leftovers, remove the ice and store it in the fridge for a couple of hours to keep it cold.

Freezer:Freeze leftover iced mocha by removing the ice and pouring the remainder into ice cube trays. Use the ice cubes in future cold coffee drinks!

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces freshly brewed espresso, *See note
  • Ice, for the glass
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons white chocolate syrup
  • 6 to 8 ounces milk

Instructions

  • Brew the espresso, and if desired let it cool to room temperature.

    2 ounces freshly brewed espresso

  • Add ice to a tall glass then add the white chocolate syrup.

    Ice

    2 to 4 tablespoons white chocolate syrup

  • Pour in the espresso and top off with milk.

    6 to 8 ounces milk

  • Add whipped cream and sprinkle white chocolate shavings and a drizzle of white chocolate sauce on top of the whipped cream.
