Cotton Insect Spray Date Set for June I By CLARK BOLT Farm Editor Cutoff date for early season cotton insect spraying is June 1, County Agent Elmo Cook reminded farmers Friday. Cook said later sprayings will kill beneficial insects which will help control the bollworm, Cook said. Last year many farmers sprayed through June 10 and many ben-lat eficial insects were killed, reports Cook. This condition, plus frequent rains and heavy egg laying by bollworm adults, resulted in extremely heavy bollworm damage in Travis County last year, he said.

Travis County's crops committee, headed by Otto Pfluger of Pflugerville, recommends that ton growers examine their cotton least twice a week after June and treat only if necessary to control fleas, weevils, bollworms, grasshoppers, spider mites, aphids and other cotton damaging insects. Cotton producers in the county are also invited to meet at three fields in the Pflugerville and Cele areas Monday afternoon to see results of early season insect control and discuss late season control. Schedule is: 1 p.m. Carl land farm, home place; 1:45 p.m. Clarence Bohls field on Carrington farm east of Pflugerville; 2:30 p.m.

Willie Randig Jr. farm, five miles northeast of Pflugerville on Weiss Lane.
