Israel and Iraq have been implacable foes since 1948. Iraq sent its troops to participate in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, and later backed Egypt and Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. In June 1981, Israel attacked and destroyed newly built Iraqi nuclear facilities in Operation Opera.
Both countries have been in a state of war three times. Syria's relations with Israel are very poor due to Israel's occupation of the Golan Heights and Syria's close ties with the anti-Israel militant group Hezbollah and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Several major countries that are recorded as not recognizing Palestine as a country are the United States (US), France and the United Kingdom (UK). These three countries stated they would not recognize a Palestinian state until the conflict with Israel was resolved peacefully.
The Republic of China granted de jure recognition to Israel on 1 March 1949. The two states maintained diplomatic relations until Israel's recognition of the People's Republic of China on 8 January 1950. Does Egypt recognize Israel as a country?
