CITY OF POCATELLO2+ weeks agoAgencyPRESS RELEASE: Pocatello Police Search for Suspect Impersonating a Police Officer Recently, there have been reports of a subject impersonating a police officer and making traffic stops within the Pocatello and Chubbuck areas. Investigations into the subject’s identity and vehicle are ongoing at this time. The Pocatello Police Department (PPD) wants to remind the public that impersonating a police officer is a serious offense and could include jail time. Throughout the investigation, the suspect and vehicle have been described as a dark “boxy” SUV with red and white lights in the lower part of the window near the dash. The impersonator has been described as male, 5’8” to 5’10”, slim build, darker or olive complexion, with brown or black hair described as a “buzz cut.” The suspect has been said to be wearing an exterior ballistic vest that had some type of firearm, extra magazines, and potentially had some kind of patch on one of his shoulders. During these encounters, the suspect has introduced himself as being a “Pocatello Police Officer” and as an “Undercover Agent.” The suspect has conducted known illegal traffic stops in both Pocatello and Chubbuck. The agencies around the city of Pocatello are aware of the impersonator as well and are working and sharing information to identify this individual. If you see or know anything, please contact PPD at 208-234-6100. Due to the actions that this male has taken so far, he should be treated as armed and dangerous. We ask that citizens be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to PPD. What to do during a traffic stop? If you are concerned about what to do during a traffic stop, here are some things you can do. •Turn on your hazard lights while driving so that if the officer is legitimate they know that you are aware they are behind you. •Slow down and go just under the speed limit while traveling to a safe stopping location. •Call the non-emergency number for dispatch to verify if an officer is attempting to make a traffic stop on your vehicle. •Stop in a well-lit area or a parking lot that is open to the public. •Go to the nearest police station and stop in the front parking lot. How to spot a Pocatello Police vehicle: •Pocatello Police marked vehicles are black and white with Police clearly visible on the side as well as the department patch. •Pocatello Police license plates will have “PPD” in them (ex. “PPD 325”). •By law, police vehicles are the only vehicles that are allowed to have blue lights, lenses, or globes. Other emergency vehicles may have flashing red and white lights. (Idaho Code 49-910A) •Unmarked police cars are used, however only in extreme circ*mstances are their emergency lights activated. If they are activated, the lights will still have flashing blue in them and will be along the top of the windshield near the visor.11Like6

People have recently reported scams to the BCSO in which scammers impersonate sheriff’s deputies and ask for payment for missing court or other court fines. Bannock County Sheriff Tony Manu wants the public to be aware of a few things: • No deputy or employee of the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office will ever ask you to give them money. • We never issue subpoenas or warrants over the phone. That is not standard protocol for our Office. • If someone presents themselves as one of our deputies or employees and states you have a legal issue and need to pay a sum of money immediately, they are attempting to scam you. If you are contacted by someone from the Sheriff’s Office and you are concerned about the legitimacy of the call: • Write down the caller’s identity, badge number, and phone number, if you can. • Let the caller know you will hang up and call right back to verify their identity. • Call our office to verify their name, and if they have indeed contacted you; do NOT call the number they provide you. BANNOCK COUNTY GOVERNMENT2+ weeks agoAgencySCAM ALERT: Jury duty scam targets Bannock County residents The Bannock County Clerk’s Jury Office has received a number of reports over the past few days of scam callers targeting our area. The suspect callers identify themselves as Bannock County employees. The context of these calls center around the suspect telling the victim they have a warrant for their arrest due to missing a court date or jury duty. The suspects work to coerce the victim into paying money over the phone with their credit card. Part of the ruse involves the threat of arrest or more criminal charges and consequences. Bannock County will never initiate a call for a payment or credit card information over the phone to satisfy a judgement, warrant, fine, jury duty, or other court issue. Those types of transactions always go through court offices directly and usually require in-person contact at the courthouse. While county staff does contact our community for a number of legitimate reasons through the course of our job, trying to directly obtain money over the phone for any criminal or civil action will not happen. The biggest tell-tale sign someone posing as Law Enforcement over the phone is a scam is when you are asked to pay money via a gift card or money transfer credit card to satisfy a fine or to avoid arrest. If you are unsure the person contacting you is a legitimate county official, you can always contact your local public safety dispatch or court offices to verify. This type of crime is among the wide variety of calls, texts, email and social media scams regularly hitting our area. Be suspicious of strange messages asking you to click links or open websites you are unfamiliar with. If you have fallen victim to this type of scam and suffered a financial loss, report the incident immediately to your local Law Enforcement and to the federal Internet Crime Complaint Center website at www.ic3.gov.7Like

BANNOCK COUNTY GOVERNMENT2+ weeks agoAgencyTRAIL SAFETY: Sheriff’s Office reminds outdoor enthusiasts to lock car doors at trailheads As Idahoans begin to hit the trails again, prowlers are taking advantage of unlocked vehicles. The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office is receiving increasing reports of burglaries in unlocked vehicles at trailheads. There are even reports of stolen cars with keys left inside or hidden around the vehicle. “We live in a great area for outdoor recreation, but even in our small community, it’s important to be diligent about locking your doors. Thieves know where to check for hidden keys, so we recommend locking your vehicle and bringing the keys with you,” said Sgt. Justin Cannon. Cannon also recommends not leaving valuables, such as guns, purses, electronics, or garage door openers, in plain view. If someone sees it and wants it, they’ll find a way to get it. “This goes for all trailheads, all the time. It’s not just a Bannock County problem; this kind of thing happens everywhere, so it’s important to stay diligent and make a habit of locking up your stuff,” Cannon said. BANNOCK COUNTY GOVERNMENT2+ weeks agoAgencyNEWS RELEASE: Two suspects arrested in string of car burglaries in Inkom INKOM, Idaho – Two people are in jail after a string of vehicle burglaries in Inkom. On Sunday, Feb. 25, Bannock County Sheriff’s deputies arrested April Ruiz, 39, and Robbert Call, 38, both of Bannock County, in connection to 14 burglaries that took place throughout February. Ruiz is charged with 14 counts of burglary and one count of possession of methamphetamine, all felonies. Call is being held on one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, a felony, and a warrant from Bonneville County. The first burglary was reported to the Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 12, and the most recent report was received on the morning of Feb. 25. Most of the burglaries took place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., and all of the reported vehicles burglarized were unlocked. “Even in a small town, it’s important to lock your cars and homes in case of a situation like this. We live in a great area with great people, but we’re still not immune to crimes of opportunity,” said Sgt. Justin Cannon, a detective on the case. Detectives with the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office were able to identify the suspects through security footage shared by local residents. Detectives then recovered various stolen items after serving a search warrant for a residence on the 400 block of Commercial St. in Inkom, where the suspects were residing. “I really want to thank the community for sharing their tips and footage with us. We wouldn’t have been able to catch them without the camera footage,” Sgt. Cannon said. It’s possible that additional burglaries in the area have not been reported to the Sheriff’s Office. Sgt.
